Benjamin Marauder Review

Benjamin Marauder – Click to enlarge

A Marauder is a highwayman; a bandit; a freebooter; a plunderer. Yes, Marauder couldn’t be a more fitting name for this Benjamin air rifle. I may not be a true highwayman, but I can say that this rifle is one of the most powerful in its price range and is unbelievable for hunting! It made me find new appreciation for PCP air rifles. After reviewing it, I’d have to say the Benjamin Marauder is for serious shooters.

Three Calibers, PCP Power Plant

The Marauder comes in three calibers: .177, .22 and .25. It’s a PCP (precharged pneumatic) rifle with a rebalanced wood stock. If you’re looking for some technical details, here’s a rundown of this gun’s specs:

  • 10-shot repeater
  • Auto-indexing feature
  • 2,000 to 3,000 psi
  • Internal shroud to reduce noise
  • 2-stage adjustable trigger
  • Choked barrel
  • 11mm dovetail grooves
  • 215cc air reservoir
  • Reversible bolt
  • 8.2lbs.

The Marauder is a beautiful looking gun, and it packs the power to match its beauty. Check out some awesome long-range pigeon hunting with the Benjamin Marauder in the video below!

High Powered

I was impressed by just how powerful this rifle is, and it has a pretty good range on it too. Squirrels don’t stand a chance at 15-20 yards. Even at 50 yards, you can split soda cans in half with this rifle.

  • .177 caliber velocity: 1100 FPS
  • .22 caliber velocity: 1000 FPS
  • .25 caliber velocity: 900 FPS

According to Benjamin, you can use this rifle for target shooting as well as small game and varmint hunting. While I’ve never tried to take down a coyote, turkey, fox or hog with this rifle, Benjamin says you can. And after seeing how powerful this rifle is, I wouldn’t doubt it for a second.

Accurate, But You’ll Need a Scope

The Marauder is one accurate rifle. But here’s the thing – you’ll need to buy a scope. It doesn’t come with any sights. It’s a good idea to invest in a good scope anyway, so if you’re buying this gun, this is a good excuse to buy one.

At 35 yards, I was able to get nickel size groups. The choked barrel and two-stage metal trigger help you achieve accurate shots. The only thing I did notice is that if the pressure starts to drop below 1500, you’ll start losing that great accuracy.

Pros

There’s a lot to like about the Benjamin Marauder. Unlike other PCP rifles, pumping isn’t fatiguing. And with the internal shroud, this gun is extremely quiet. Is it dead silent? No. And higher calibers will be louder than the .177, but this air rifle is still incredibly quiet compared to other air rifles.

Cons

I love that this gun is a 10-shot repeater, but the magazine is small for big hands. That means you’ll have to pay attention when loading the magazine. Otherwise, you’ll drop more pellets than you’ll shoot.

The Marauder is also a bit on the heavy side. Without a scope, it weighs 8.2lbs. Chances are, you won’t need more than one or two shots to take down your target, so the gun’s weight really shouldn’t be an issue.

The reversible bolt takes some getting used to, but it’s not overly complicated.

If you like small to medium game hunting, the Marauder won’t disappoint. It’s powerful, accurate, easy to shoot and well priced, relative to it’s peers.
